Chapter 10, Kentucky Boy.

We welcomed our third child, John, our future veteran, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital in Martin, Kentucky. The day was full of joy. Unseasonably warm in January, the kids rolled down the hillside, spinning until dizzy. I looked up the street and saw a house I had walked through after one brother shot and killed another. My beautiful day took a hit.

Maintaining work/life/family balance can be difficult, but it is vital. People involved in law enforcement, fire and rescue, first responders and even lawyers must prioritize the lives of their spouses and families or their lives will be miserable. Today, Memorial Day, keep our veterans in your prayers. They fill the roles of life savers even after they come home.
